It’s not looking good at all for people who want to see Spider-Man back in the MCU.

We’re gonna come out and say it. Spider-Man is the best character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

He’s geeky, he’s adorable, and he’d kick the crap out of damn near everyone in the universe. And if he couldn’t, he’d give it a good go.

He’s just the best.

But it’s seriously starting to look like we’ve seen the end of him in the MCU.

Speaking at Variety’s Entertainment & Technology summit, Sony Pictures chairman and CEO Tony Vinciquerra gave a grim assessment of the likelihood of a Spider-Man return to Disney.

He said: “We had a great run with (Kevin Feige) on Spider-Man movies. We tried to see if there’s a way to work it out.”

He went on to say that the “for the moment the door is closed”, on a return to Disney for everyone’s favourite neighbourhood superhero.

He continued: “Spider-Man was fine before the event movies, did better with the event movies, and now that we have our own universe, he will play off the other characters as well.

“I think we’re pretty capable of doing what we have to do here.”

Although that all does seem fairly definite, we are certain we haven’t heard the last of this one yet.
