On today’s ‘Moncrieff’ show on Newstalk, Sean Moncrieff started a very interesting and humourous hashtag about lyrics that people had misheard. It resulted in comedy gold.
We admit to belting out a tune incorrectly while rocking out in the safety of our own home, we even went as far to sing ‘We built this city on sausage rolls’ to the tune of the famous Starship song. We actually covered our five favourite lyrical mix ups a few months back. and we apologise profusely for our errors.
But it seems we are not the only ones to have gotten the wrong end of the stick in terms of song lyrics, apparently we weren’t alone in thinking the Kings of Leon sang ‘Ohhhh, dyslexics on fire’.
Here are some off the best lyrical blunders from the public.
@SeanMoncrieff friend’s mum thought Gwen Stefani’s “I ain’t no holler back girl” was, in fact, “I ain’t no holy black girl” #misheardlyrics

These efforts are funny enough, but they aren’t on the same level as this ridiculous effort from the Dominican Republic. Rumours are circulating that this may be staged but frankly we don’t care, we find it hilarious anyway.
If you enjoyed these efforts, more musical errors are available here.
