Record-breaking jackpot won on The Chase in ‘best episode’

Charlie Herbert

Incredible scenes.

One of the greatest episodes in the history of The Chase took place earlier this week, as two contestants took home a huge £100,000 jackpot.

Easily one of the greatest quiz shows ever to have graced TV screens, there have been some incredible Chase moments over the years.

And we now have another iconic moment to add to the list.

On Thursday’s (September 5) episode, the team of four contestants came up against Paul Sinha a.k.a. The Sinnerman as they tried to take home some big money.

Whilst half the team fell at the first hurdle and were eliminated by the elite quizzer, two of the team made it through.

The first was Ian, a magician from Middlesex, who brought home a respectable £6,000 in prize money. But things really got interesting when his teammate, Karen stepped up to the table.

She decided to go for the huge higher offer of £94,000, and successfully managed to stay clear of Sinha in her chase.

So this brought their final total to a (very) nice round £100,000.

With only two in the final, the odds were stacked against them to win the final chase. Any Chase expert will tell you you’re usually looking for a score in the region of 20 to have a good chance of winning the final.

And, despite a valiant effort from the pair, they managed to get a final score of 16.

Host Bradley Walsh was quick to offer the immortal words of advice that the team are “gonna need some pushbacks.”

The Sinnerman got off to a decent start, but his first slip-up came on the fourth question, but Karen and Ian also answered wrong.

Trying to rattle through the questions, the Chaser tried to answer a question before Bradley had finished – and got it wrong.

The door was ajar for the contestants, and they duly answered correctly, pushing Paul back.

In a nail-biting finish for the ages, it came down to the final seconds in the final chase. And when Sinha got the crucial 17th question wrong with just one second left, he knew the game was up and Karen and Ian could start the celebrations.

They got the question wrong anyway, but there was no time for Bradley to ask the final question before the time was up.

By winning the £100,000 – and taking home £50k each – Karen and Ian set the record for the biggest final jackpot won by a two-person team in the history of The Chase.

Reacting on X, one person wrote: “MASSIVE £100,000 WIN on The Chase! 50 grand each. This is going to cost ITV big time!”

Another said: “A couple of players just won £100k on ITV 1’s The Chase!!! Blimey! It was good to watch!”

Someone else wrote: “What a player Karen is. Going for £94k and it absolutely paid off. Best episode I’ve seen for a long time.”

Speaking about what they’ll do with the money, Ian said he planned on buying a “very nice car,” whilst Karen said she would make a trip to Abu Dhabi to watch the F1 Grand Prix.
