Emmett J Scanlan and Paul Mescal are among its stars.
Netflix has been on a roll lately in terms of adding TV shows to its library, recently making Angela Black, Black Mirror season six and all of Hannibal available to stream on their service.
And now the streamer has gone one step further, with the addition of The Deceived - the thriller series from Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee.
The show stars Emilie Reid (The Trouble with Maggie Cole) as a young English student named Ophelia who falls in love with her married lecturer, Michael (Emmett J Scanlan - Kin, Peaky Blinders).
Beginning an illicit affair and following him to Donegal, their relationship is rocked by a shocking death which makes Ophelia question her love for Michael, as well as her sanity.
Co-created by McGee and Tobias Beer, the ensemble cast of The Deceived also includes Derry Girls alum Eleanor Methven, Ian McElhinney and Louisa Harland, alongside Catherine Walker (A Dark Song), Dempsey Bovell (Young Wallander), Lloyd Everitt (The Sandman), Paul Mescal (Aftersun, Normal People) and Shelly Cohn (Bridgerton).
Having first premiered on Channel 5 in 2020, here are some positive write-ups The Deceived received from critics upon release:
The Age Australia: "Creepy without being too disturbing (indeed it's a little silly in places), and with a pleasing twist, it's the viewing equivalent of comfort food, combining classic film tropes with timeless, undemanding subject matter."
The Guardian: "Lisa McGee and Tobias Beer’s Irish drama may not be innovative, but it delivers a satisfying hit of the worst human impulses, with a dash of pre-Normal People Paul Mescal."
The Independent: "This agreeably hokey gothic chiller has overtones of Daphne du Maurier's Rebecca."
Sydney Morning Herald: "Emilie Reid brings a winning vulnerability to this watchable psychological thriller miniseries."
Comprising of four episodes - each just under 45 minutes long - The Deceived is streaming on Netflix in Ireland now.
