The evolution of Terminators… really, really old spoiler alert

Hasta la vista

JOE

Arnie is back… well, he did say he would be.

Yes, Terminator Genisys is finally here and we’re super excited.

We even got to meet the legend that is Mr Schwarzenegger.

So to celebrate all this Skynet brilliance, we’ve decided to track the evolution of Terminator through the first three movies.

We’re ignoring Salvation, because to be honest, we don’t have the foggiest what was going on with the ‘hybrid.’

The Terminator

Robot – Cyberdyne Systems Model 101 Series 800 Terminator

Sent back to – May 13, 1984

Sent back from the future to murder poor ‘ol Sarah Connor as she is set to mother the leader of the future human resistance, John Connor.

Now if that doesn’t put you off child-birth, we don’t know what will.

Demise: A hydraulic press.

Rating: 4/5 – Loses points for not being bad-ass enough to beat a hydraulic press.

Terminator 2: Judgement Day

Robot: Cyberdyne Systems Model 101 Series 800 Version 2.4 Infiltration-Combat Unit

Sent back to: June 8, 1995

Sent back to protect a young John Connor and did a pretty mighty job doing so. He even sacrificed himself… what a sound robot.

Demise: Molten steel… but it’s OK, he gave the thumbs-up while doing so.

Rating: 5/5 – This is a robot that understands what crying means. We can’t even understand ‘error 404.’

t1000

Robot: T-1000 is a Prototype Series 1000

Sent back to: June 8, 1995

Sent back to assassinate John Connor, this shape-shifting robot was no match for the T-800 and Connors.

Demise: The molten steel also took out the T-1000.

Rating: 4/5 – Loses marks for not being able to catch Connor in the arcade. That wasn’t very good terminating at all…

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines

Robot: Cyber Research Systems Model 101 Series 850 Infiltration-Combat Unit.

Sent back to: 2004

The 850 was sent back by Kate Connor to protect her and her future husband, John Connor. It’s identical to the T-800 in loads of ways, but differs in a few too.

For instance, it’s been programmed in human psychology, so is able to understand human emotion in a way the previous model wasn’t. It’s also older… just because.

Demise: A hydrogen fuel cell.

Rating: 3/5 – It’s lack of humour made it less likeable than its predecessors.

Robot: T-X Terminatrix

Sent back to: July 24, 2004

The TX is undoubtedly the hottest robot we’re yet to come across and probably the most deadly. Just like the T-1000, it had mimetic polyalloy which allowed it to shape-shift and its on-board weaponry added an extra bit of bad-assery.

Demise: A hydrogen fuel cell.

Rating: A pretty darn cool machine, but it’s lack of human understanding was ultimately its demise… well that and a big explosion.

Okay, we’re super excited for Terminator Genisys now. If you’re feeling the same go see it when it hits Irish cinemas on Thursday. Here’s a clip to get you in the mood.
