The film was nominated for 12 Academy Awards, and won two.

Our TV movie pick for tonight (Monday, 2 February) is The Revenant, the film that scored Leonardo Di Caprio his first Oscar.

An acting tour de force, Leonardo DiCaprio went through hell making this Western survival film, so we think the Oscar was deserved at this point.

Our very own Domhnall Gleeson also stars in the film as well as Tom Hardy and Will Poulter.

Set in the early 19th century, The Revenant follows Hugh Glass, a frontiersman exploring the harsh American wilderness.

After a violent bear attack, he must rely on instinct, endurance and the natural world to survive extreme weather, dangerous surroundings and constant threats.

The film focuses on survival and resilience with a strong emphasis on atmosphere and realism.

Additionally, director Alejandro G. Iñárritu won a Best Director Oscar for The Revenant, becoming the first person to win consecutive Academy Awards since 1950 for this and Birdman the year prior.

Well worth a watch.

You can watch The Revenant tonight on TG4 at 9.30pm.
