A spin-off of a previous Prime Video hit, the show is earning surprisingly strong reviews.

Prime Video has just added The Terminal List: Dark Wolf, a spin-off to its hit 2022 action thriller series The Terminal List.

Based on Alan Carr's 2018 novel of the same name, the original show starred Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy) as James Reece, a US Navy SEAL who returns home after his entire platoon is ambushed.

This is only to discover new dark forces working against him and endangering the ones he loves.

The 2022 series also starred Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights) as Ben Edwards, a CIA operative and a former soldier pal of Reece's.

The Terminal List was not a big hit with critics, but was with audiences - leading to a season two renewal, as well as the development of a prequel show.

The latter, Dark Wolf, has arrived first and delves into Edwards' back story, following his "journey from the Navy SEALs to the clandestine side of CIA Special Operations".

Unlike The Terminal List, Dark Wolf is earning glowing reviews from critics, who have praised it for its action set-pieces and gritty tone.

Several have even said that they believe it is an improvement on the original.

You can read an example of some of these positive write-ups below:

Collider: "If anything, Dark Wolf is even better than the original series, compulsively bingeable and striking a balance between grittiness and escapism."

FandomWire: "Like the original, The Terminal List: Dark Wolf is a taut, unrelenting spy thriller that never lets up."

JoBlo's Movie Network: "More fun than The Terminal List but every bit as gritty and violent, The Terminal List: Dark Wolf is an entertaining, action-oriented drama that will please fans of the original series and excites me for season two of the Chris Pratt-led drama."

RogerEbert.com: "The show consistently brings the action and the boom factor, big time."
