Holding a 96% Rotten Tomatoes score, the 2021 film was nominated for two Oscars.

Our TV movie pick for tonight (Saturday, 2 May) is The Worst Person in the World, the wonderful 2021 Norwegian romantic comedy-drama that became a crossover hit.

Directed by Joachim Trier (Sentimental Value), the film follows Julie (a magnetic Renate Reinsve, Presumed Innocent), a woman in her late 20s in contemporary Oslo, as she searches for love and meaning.

Over four years, she struggles to find her career path, while embarking on relationships with two men: Willman (the incredible Anders Danielsen Lie - Oslo, August 31), an older comic artist, and Eivind (Herbert Nordrum), a more carefree barista.

The Worst Person in the World is beautifully acted, stylishly directed, and features dialogue that hits like a freight train.

The movie perfectly captures both the fizzy excitement of youth and the possibility it holds, as well as the encroaching panic that comes with not having your life totally figured out yet.

Nominated for two Oscars and boasting a Rotten Tomatoes score of 96%, The Worst Person in the World is airing on TV tonight/tomorrow morning on Film4 at 1am.

The film is also currently streaming on Mubi.
