Meanwhile, a recent Irish Oscar nominee is joining the Star Wars universe.
Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023 has kicked off in London and will take place throughout the weekend, with Disney and Lucasfilm using the fan gathering to release information regarding a number of the upcoming projects in the space opera franchise.
And the big announcement from day one of the event is that three new-live action Star Wars films are on the way. Directing the movies will be James Mangold (Logan, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny), Dave Filoni (The Mandalorian, Ahsoka), and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel, Saving Face).
While there have been reports for months that Obaid-Chinoy was working on a Star Wars picture, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has now confirmed that her movie will be set after the events of Rise of Skywalker and will feature actress Daisy Ridley returning to the role of Rey as the character builds a new Jedi Order.

On top of this, it was revealed that Mangold’s movie will go back to the dawn of the Jedi, while Filoni’s will focus on the New Republic. It is said that the latter will “close out the interconnected stories told in The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and other Disney+ series”.
Meanwhile, on the TV side of Star Wars, a trailer was shown at the event for the much-anticipated series Skeleton Crew. Set to premiere on Disney+ later in the year and featuring an episode directed by Academy Award-winning filmmakers The Daniels, the show will star Jude Law and follow a group of kids on an adventure.
While the teaser for the show has not hit the web as of yet, the footage shown at the fan gathering revealed that recent Irish Oscar-nominee Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin) is part of the series’ cast.
