Try to stay calm, but ‘Pint Baby’ is going to be on RTÉ News today

Conor Heneghan

20 years on from his moment in the spotlight, it’s time to see what has become of ‘Pint Baby’.

You may have missed it, but a person referred to only as ‘Pint Baby’ (his real name is Stephen Barron) became Ireland’s latest viral sensation after a clip of him drinking from a pint of Guinness in 1997 resurfaced on social media over the weekend.

Shared on Facebook by RTÉ reporter Cian McCormack, the clip came from an archived episode of RTÉ’s Nationwide entitled ‘Single Women Scarce In Kerry,’ a fairly self-explanatory programme about how hard it was to find a woman in Kerry back in the late 1990s.

While it was interesting to hear about the plight of single men in Kerry back then, all people could talk about was the sight of a baby sipping from a pint of Guinness in a busy pub.

Since then, ‘Pint Baby’ has been the talk of social media and McCormack himself will find out what’s become of the child star in the years since when he catches up with him on RTÉ News on Monday.

If you missed him on the news at one, he’ll be on again on the Six One news on Monday evening; it’s all shaping up to be THE TV event of 2017.
