Video: Feast your eyes on the latest brilliant trailer for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

We have to admit that this trailer scared us just a little bit, but we still can’t wait to see it all the same.

We have to admit that this trailer scared us just a little bit, but we still can’t wait to see it all the same.

The sequel to the hugely successful and rather excellent 2011 hit, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, will hit cinema screens this summer and from what we’ve seen so far, it looks like it will live up to and maybe even exceed the lofty standards reached by the Rupert Wyatt directed original.

Matt Reeves of Cloverfield fame is in the director’s chair this time around as the beloved ape from the first film, Caesar, returns as *pauses for breath* the leader of a growing band of genetically evolved apes trying to stave off the threat of humans who survived the outbreak of a devastating virus and who blame the apes for unleashing it in the first place *exhales*.

Speaking of survivors, Andy Serkis is the only high-profile member of the cast from the original movie to return and is joined by Keri Russell (you might remember her from Felicity all those years back), Jason Clarke and the brilliant Gary Oldman.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is certainly shaping up to be one of the must-see releases of the summer, certainly if the trailer is anything to go by, although if we had one gripe, it would be the lack of a musical number we have seen in previous incarnations of Planet of the Apes in the past…

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes will hit cinemas in Ireland on 17 July
