We don’t know who’s dumb and who’s dumber for allowing this to happen.
The Czech Lion awards – the Czech Republic equivalent of the Oscars – might not be as big a deal as the Academy Awards themselves, but they are a big deal in the Czech Republic.
The awards ceremony was held in Prague last night and organisers of the ceremony were sure they had secured quite a coup for themselves.
In the lead-up to the ceremony, people claiming to represent comedy legend Jim Carrey contacted organisers and told them that the Dumb and Dumber star would be around Prague and would like to attend.
According to the Daily Mail, the organisers were told to keep Carrey’s appearance on the QT for security reasons.
They obviously trusted those feeding them the information because when Carrey was eventually summoned on stage, this guy appeared.

Now, granted, the man in question does share some similarities and likenesses with Jim Carrey, but as far as we’re concerned, it’s clear as day that it’s not actually him.
And it’s not just us either because loads and loads of viewers called and e-mailed to say likewise.
Organisers initially stubbornly maintained that it was Carrey before eventually admitting that they had been had, with director Jan Sverak saying: “We have become very likely the target of a very elaborate hoax. I’m so sorry.”
In fairness to Sverak, he held his hands up and admitted defeated afterwards and even paid tribute to those responsible for a highly successful prank.
“I am very sorry, I apologise. It was not my intention, but I must salute someone’s perfect game in managing to con us.”
We’re sure Jim himself will approve when he gets wind of what went on…
