David Attenborough, eat your heart out.
Such was the overwhelming impact made by Planet Earth 2 on the BBC before Christmas that there was plenty of excitement when TG4 announced that they would be broadcasting an Irish version, titled Éire Fhiáin.
Ireland might not be as exotic as some of the destinations featured in Planet Earth 2 and it might not be home to predators as frightening and deadly as some featured on the show, but Éire Fhiáin managed to show just how fascinating the wildlife is in our seas and on our shores.
Presented by Eoin Warner, the first episode featured thousands of birds returning from the sub-Antarctic to the same nest on the Skelligs in county Kerry, humpback whales near the Blasket Islands and lizards in the Burren in Clare.
Safe to say it lived up to the hype and we can’t wait for more of the same. If you didn’t catch it the first time, you can watch it on the TG4 player here.
