WATCH: The Late Late Show Valentine’s Day special from 1982 makes for gas viewing

“Roll it there… Colette?” Where the hell was Róisín?

Excitement is building ahead of The Late Late Show’s annual Valentine’s Day special tonight, an occasion that, as we’ve seen in recent years, takes on something of a life of its own.

35 years ago, it might not have been as wild and as raucous as it is now, but the Late Late was doing this sort of thing as far back as 1982 and RTÉ have provided a blast from the past ahead of the big show tonight.

Back then, the show took to the streets in an effort to see if the people of Ireland could summon some romantic musings on camera, whether it be in the form of a song, a poem or a saying to get the romantic juices flowing.

The response, perhaps apart from the poor lady who couldn’t remember her lines at the end, was quite impressive, as you’ll see below.
