5 kid’s movies that actually have an important message for grown ups

JOE

Important life lessons for everyone.

Everyone loves to watch animated films regardless of their age but once in a while, a kid’s film comes along that actually stops us in our tracks, makes us feel things, and teaches us important lessons.

Here are some of the best films that are intended for kids but also have plenty that adults can learn from. Here’s our list from the cheesy to the surprisingly profound.

WALL-E

Teaches us about: Protecting the environment.

This isn’t just a film about a cute rusty robot that finds an equally cute robot girlfriend.

The film is set 700 years into the future, in which WALL- E (Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class) spends his days picking up and compacting trash. However, WALL-E is completely surrounded by trash and nothing else, as all of us glutinous humans have started living in space ships where our every need is catered to by machines.

This film actually teaches us all about the importance of recycling as well as the extreme laziness that exists in society. It also shows us that the world’s obsession with over-consumption and lack of environmentalism could have a very negative effect in the future.

Big Hero 6

Teaches us about: Grief

This isn’t just an epic movie about super heroes and robots.

The film follows a young boy names Hiro who makes robots. His brother creates a robot named Baymax but when he sadly dies, having already lost both his parents, Hiro is consumed by incredible grief.

The film draws attention to the effects of grief and Baymax’s interactions with Hiro illustrate the point that although grief is not a physical pain, it’s equally as real.

Inside Out

Teaches us about: Mental health

The film is mostly set inside the main character Riley’s mind. As the 11-year-old is about to move home, her emotions Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust all try to guide her through the change.

This film was hugely acclaimed by critics and viewers alike for it’s comprehensive portrayal of a young girl’s mind. The film teaches children and adults the importance of accessing emotions and how sometimes, they can be quite confusing.

Beauty and the Beast

Teaches us about: Not judging a book by it’s cover

The classic film is about to be remade into a live action version starring Emma Watson. The well-known story about the man under a spell teaches us that you might not know the person behind the face that you’re seeing.

It may sound incredibly cheesy but the message is applicable to society’s obsession with vanity.

Up

Teaches us about: Following your dreams, regardless of your age.

We all remember the absolutely heart-breaking opening few minutes when 78-year-old Carl Frederickson becomes a widower. He then decides to finally take off and pursue an adventure that he has always talked about. After attaching balloons to his house, he finally travels to Paradise Falls and meets plenty of wacky characters along the way.

This film shows us all that if you’ve always wanted to do something, just do it.
