The video, which was created by students and teachers of Finn Valley College in Stranorlar, County Donegal was selected by Sheeran for his song ‘Magical’ from his new album ‘Autumn Vibrations.’

The video stood out over more than 4,000 entries from 75 countries to be one of 14 fan-made music videos for the album.

Described as "a school love story with a Romeo and Juliet twist", the video was released by Sheeran on Tuesday, November 28.

Finn Valley teacher Edel Temple said that the idea for the music video came about after she saw the competition being posted on Ed Sheeran's Instagram page.

"I asked my colleague Tina Garry for help," she told RTÉ. "She, with the brilliant brains of our transition year students, wrote the pitch for the competition, devising the concept, planning the shot types and compiling a list of props to complement the narrative and music."

Explaining the concept behind the video, she said, "The Romeo and Juliet theme, where an unrequited teenage crush was harboured by two friends, was something our pupils were keen to explore.

"A love for drama and literature in a school setting was popular as we knew love and school were things that could be related to by so many people."

Star of the video, 14-year-old Leona McGinty, told the BBC: "It was just such a lovely experience. I didn't think it was real when they told me, I thought they were lying".

Leona said that all the pupils involved in the project were sent a personal video of thanks from Ed.

"I was blushing red when I saw it, I couldn't believe it," she said.
