26 further deaths in connection with Covid-19, 701 new cases

The Department of Health announced 26 further deaths in connection with Covid-19, 23 of which were laboratory confirmed.

These latest figures mean that there have now been a total of 1,087 Covid-19 related deaths in Ireland.

701 new cases were confirmed on Sunday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus to 19,262 in Ireland.

The most recent figures released show that of the people hospitalised, 349 cases have been admitted to ICU.

Over 27% (5,064) of all cases involve healthcare workers.

Of the confirmed cases thus far, 57% are female and 42% are male.

Of those for whom transmission status is known, 63% come from community transmission, 33% from close contact and 4% from travel abroad.

These figures come hours after Paul Reid, CEO of the HSE, announced that he believed Ireland would be feeling the affects of Covid-19 into 2021.

He said: “The reality is now that we need to build for a longer term model, not just a wartime model, to protect everyone.”
