402 new cases of Covid-19 confirmed in Ireland

13 more people in Ireland have died as a result of the virus.

402 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in Ireland on Thursday evening (2 April).

The most recent announcement from the Department of Health also revealed that 13 more people in Ireland have died in connection with the virus.

This means that there is now 3,849 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the Republic of Ireland, as well as a total of 98 deaths.

134 people have now died on the island of Ireland since the outbreak began, with a total of 4,623 confirmed cases between Republic and the North.

148 people have been admitted to intensive care with confirmed cases of Covid-19.

25 of those have been discharged. 109 of these people are still in ICUs, while 14 people in intensive care have since died.

Chief Medical Officer Doctor Tony Holohan stated that we have, as a nation, flattened the curve, but that it is of the utmost importance that we flatten it even further.

Speaking about the stresses that Covid-19 is putting on Irish hospitals, Holohan said: “We know if we continue to grow at a rate of 10% we will face a challenge.”

As of Tuesday night, 841 of the confirmed cases were among healthcare workers.

It was also said that further extensions are to be expected in Ireland, but that more information on this subject will be released at a later date.
