Donald Trump’s former campaign manager Paul Manafort told to surrender to the authorities

Robert Mueller's probe into Russian involvement in the 2016 Presidential Election has escalated significantly this morning as Donald Trump's former campaign manager Paul Manafort was told to report to the authorities.

The charges against Manafort are the first to be filed as part of Mueller's investigation, and represent a major development in the probe. While it is not yet public what charges Manafort is facing, Mueller had been investigating him for "violations of federal tax law, money laundering and whether he appropriately disclosed his foreign lobbying," according to The New York Times. The New York Times has also broken that a long-time business partner of Manafort's, Rick Gates, has also been told to surrender himself to the authorities. Manafort ran Donald Trump's campaign for a matter of months before being replaced by Kellyanne Conway and Steve Bannon. He is alleged to have been present at a meeting Jared Kushner and Donald Trump Junior where Trump's team sought information on Hillary Clinton from a Russian official.
