Dublin Airport “returning to normal levels of staffing” over Easter weekend

Dublin Airport has been in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons in recent weeks, with chaotic scenes finding their way online and many disgruntled customers sharing negative experiences. Earlier this month, lengthy queues for security screenings were widely reported, with some passengers missing flights as a consequence. Airport staff noted they have experienced abuse and harassment, including allegedly being pushed and spat on by angry members of the public. The DAA, which runs the airport, has issued statements apologising to passengers for the disruption and has outlined a five-point plan to combat the problems. Dublin Airport was even named the second-most stressful airport in all of Europe just this week. All of which brings us to Easter weekend and the expectation of a lot of travel. Members of the public have been understandably apprehensive regarding just what situation they could be faced with ahead of a flight abroad. As of Friday morning and early afternoon, the outlook is... not bad, actually. Speaking on Today with Claire Byrne on RTÉ Radio 1 on Friday, DAA spokesperson Graeme McQueen said that the average queuing time at Terminal 1 has been about half an hour. "Normal levels of staffing" are in place, with 24-hour security personnel on hand to assist the over 50,000 passengers expected to fly out on Good Friday. Thus far, no backlogs or significant disruption has been reported. Once again, Dublin Airport officials are requesting people to arrive for their flight up to three-and-a-half hours before it is scheduled to depart. McQueen noted that a lot of last week's issues were due to "people arriving a little bit too early, and a panic setting in" as a result. 600 airport staff have been redeployed to Dublin this weekend in a bid to ease the overall screening process.
