Greta Thunberg takes dig at Andrew Tate over pizza boxes following his arrest

Charlie Herbert

The Swedish climate activist may have indirectly helped make Tate’s arrest possible.

Greta Thunberg has responded to the news of Andrew Tate’s arrest in Romania by joking about the pizza boxes he so proudly claimed were non-recyclable.

Late on Thursday (29 December), Tate was detained by Romanian authorities at his property in Pipera alongside his brother on suspicion of human trafficking and rape.

This followed an exchange between Thunberg and Tate on Twitter, in which the climate activist said Tate had “small d**k energy”.

He then responded with a bizarre two-minute video, which included him being handed pizza boxes from a local chain, Jerry’s Pizza.

Within 24 hours of the video being posted, Tate was arrested along with his brother.

Unconfirmed reports have claimed that authorities were able to confirm his whereabouts thanks to the pizza boxes that appeared in the video response.

In a tweet following the news of Tate’s arrest, Thunberg simply said: “This is what happens when you don’t recycle your pizza boxes.”

At the time of writing, the Tweet has racked up almost 800,000 likes in less than three hours.

Tate has been detained on suspicion of human trafficking, rape and forming an organised crime group, prosecutors said on Thursday (29 December) according to Reuters.

Prosecutors also said that they have found six women who claim to have been sexually exploited by the suspects.

Romania’s Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) issued a statement but did not name the Tate brothers.

It confirmed that two British citizens and two Romanian citizens were suspected of being part of a criminal group focused on human trafficking.

“We make it clear that during the entire criminal process, the investigated persons benefit from the procedural rights and guarantees provided by the Code of Criminal Procedure, as well as the presumption of innocence,” DIICOT said in the statement.

A spokesperson for Andrew Tate told the Daily Mail: “We cannot provide any details at the moment regarding alleged reports that they have been detained; however, Andrew and Tristan Tate have the utmost respect for the Romanian authorities and will always assist and help in any way they can.”

DIICOT says they raided five properties during their operation on 29 December.

Tate, a former kickboxer, rose to fame in 2016 when he was removed from the British TV show Big Brother over a video that appeared to show him attacking a woman.

The 36-year-old has gained notoriety this year because of his inflammatory and misogynistic views on women.
