There are three warnings now in place.

In terms of their most recent update, Met Éireann said that “there is potential that wind or rainfall warnings will be required in at least some parts of the country over the next few days” and they’ve promptly issued another Status Yellow warning.

As stated on their website, a wind warning has been issued for the whole country and it’s in place from Wednesday 19 September 05:00 to Wednesday 19 September 17:00.

The warning states: “Very windy across Ireland from early on Wednesday morning until evening. South to southwest winds will reach mean speeds of 50 to 65 km/hr with gusts of 90 to 110 km/hr, strongest on southern, western and northern coastal areas.”

The Met Office – the organisation responsible for updating weather conditions regarding Northern Ireland –  have said that: “A spell of very windy weather is expected. Gusts of 50-60 mph are possible inland.”

They also added to expect:

  • Road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible
  • Some damage to buildings is possible, such as tiles blown from roofs. Falling trees or branches are possible
  • Power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
  • Injuries and danger to life from flying debris
  • Some roads and bridges may close

This latest warning from Met Eireann is the second one that has been issued today.

Earlier this afternoon, a Status Yellow rainfall warning was issued for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo which stated: “Heavy rain at times this afternoon and tonight, with falls of 25 to 40 mm expected and a risk of local flooding.”

This warning is valid from Monday 17 September 13:00 to Tuesday 18 September 2018 05:00.

Aside from this, there’s also a Status Yellow marine warning for any small crafts that might be travelling off the Irish coast.

“South to southeast winds will reach force 6 or 7 this evening on all Irish coasts. West to southwest winds will reach force 6 or 7 later tonight or tomorrow on all Irish coasts.”

Two separate depressions in the Atlantic are also thought to be heading towards Ireland and are predicted to arrive in the next few days.
