An early start to a historic day.
Considering that today is the first Good Friday in 91 years that pubs are allowed to open in Ireland, it’s understandable that folks will want to make the most of the day that’s in it.
In a couple of places in Dublin, they weren’t long getting the pints in, with famous watering holes such as The Boar’s Head and Slattery’s serving pints from as early as 7am this morning.

Both pubs, as regulars will well know, are ‘early houses’ with a licence for early morning trade, but no doubt punters will be keen to get a similarly early start when pubs throughout the country follow suit a little later on.
Another Slattery’s pub in Dublin, meanwhile, Slattery’s in Beggar’s Bush, will be giving all of the bar’s proceeds from when the pub opens at 12.30pm to when it closes at 12.30am on Saturday to Our Lady’s Hospice Care and the 4th Port Dodder Sea Scout Group.
If you’re in the area and would like to enjoy a novel Good Friday drink while donating to two worthy causes, it might be worth dropping in for a pint.
If you are venturing out on Good Friday, meanwhile, please drink responsibly; you’ll want to remember such a historic occasion after all.
