Met Éireann has issued two separate status yellow rainfall warnings, both of which are set to come into effect on Monday morning (30 September).

The first warning concerns Cork and Kerry, with 25 to 35mm of rain expected along with a risk of spot flooding.

That warning is valid from Monday at 3am until 4pm on the same day.

A second warning, complete with the same 25 to 35mm of potential rainfall and spot flooding, has been issued for Dublin, Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Tipperary and Waterford.

That advisory is in place from Monday morning at 9am until 8pm that evening.

Meanwhile, Met Éireann continues to monitor the development of Hurricane Lorenzo, amid concerns that the category 5 hurricane could reach Ireland next week.

“Hurricane Lorenzo is currently a Major Hurricane (M), positioned in the south Atlantic,” Met Éireann said on Saturday.

“In the coming days, it is expected to gradually track northeastwards in the direction of Ireland.

“However, the exact track and the severity of the system once it comes closer to land is still uncertain. It is expected to lose its major status soon and transition to a Hurricane (H).”

On Sunday morning, the American National Hurricane Centre noted that Lorenzo “is the strongest hurricane on record this far north and east in the Atlantic basin.”
