In fairness, he had it coming.
Like him or loathe him – and there are quite a lot of people who would subscribe to the latter theory – Piers Morgan is certainly an influential character on Twitter, regularly courting controversy amongst his millions of followers for his opinions on a wide range of subjects, but most notably football and his beloved Arsenal.
Along with Spurs, Manchester United are quite often the target of Morgan’s baiting and they were again last night when he sent a bullish tweet in the direction of Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand and Robin van Persie ahead of the clash between the sides at Old Trafford on Sunday.
A couple of weeks back he had a dig at former Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson after the release of Fergie’s new book, a tweet that was met with a brilliantly cutting response by one United fan.

@piersmorgan Good idea, if anyone knows how to hold cups it’s definitely Sir Alex.
