An interesting choice of guest.
After an eventful week in Irish politics, Claire Byrne returned to the RTÉ screens to discuss the fallout from the General Election. Her guests this evening included Hugh O’Connell, former Taoiseach John Bruton and journalist Eamon Dunphy.
As we all know, Dunphy isn’t shy when it comes to expressing an opinion on any topic – it’s a large part of what makes him so appealing – but it seems that not everyone agreed with having the football analyst on the show to provide political commentary.
Here’s how Twitter reacted, baby.
John Bruton & Eamon Dunphy talking #GE16 results & what happens next on #cblive @RTEOne now

Plenty of people felt that the journalist and former TV host/footballer was out of his depth.
I'm no political genius says Dunphy… Well ain't that the truth

The 'political earthquake' being reflected on #cblive by, umm, John Bruton and Eamon Dunphy. The more things change….

… Errr. Eamon Dunphy, Annette Mooney from PBP ran in your constituency. #cblive

Eamon Dunphy voted for Jim O'Callaghan in Dub Bay S to stop Aodhan O'Riordain getting in (even though he's in Dub Bay N). Says it all. #GE16

Dunphy did have some supporters and words of encouragement though.
#EamonDunphy is correct in his summation of the #FG #Labour govt, #JohnBruton still a #FG man, no surprise, politics been good2 him #cblive

Dunphy is right.Kenny was way out of his depth as leader, lost the run of himself the nearer the finishing line he found himself. #cblive

I'd say the 40% who don't want Kenny or Martin for Taoiseach want Dunphy…obviously @ClaireByrneLive

The perfect summary.
