WATCH: Dave Grohl tells hilarious story of the time his Mum embarrassed him on stage

Rory Cashin

When your Mom asks for something for her birthday, no-one has the heart to say no.

Universally agreed upon Worlds Nicest Rock Star (TM) Dave Grohl sat down to his interview his own mother as part of the Los Angeles Time Book Festival to talk about her new book From Cradle to Stage: Stories from the Mothers Who Rocked and Raised Rock Stars.

In it, Virginia Hanlon Grohl talks about what it was like having a son who was a part of Nirvana and still a part of Foo Fighters, but she also interviews the mothers of the likes of Dr. Dre, Getty Lee, Adam Levine, Michael Stipe and HAIM, amongst others.

Chatting to his mom, Dave talks about the time they went to a local jazz club on her birthday, and for her present, she wanted her son to get up on stage and join them in a bit of a jam session.

Grohl, being a punk-rocker and totally aware of just how unsuited he was to playing alongside jazz musicians, did what any dutiful son would do: he got on stage to make his mother happy.

Watch him eek out the embarrassment in full below:
