At this rate, there’s going to be a thriving black market for bread in Ireland.
Extreme weather events have a habit of causing a sense of panic amongst people in Ireland and perhaps the clearest sign of that this week has been our rush to stock up on bread as the Beast from the East sweeps across the country.
Regardless of how long we have to put up with the current conditions, this individual isn’t going to run out anytime soon, that’s for sure.
Bread companies have been working overtime in an effort to meet the outrageous demand, but shelves stocked with loaves of bread are still emptying at a furious rate, prompting a Super Valu store in Clones in Monaghan into action on Wednesday morning.
JOE reader Jenny McQuillan sent us an image of a customer notice in the store, informing customers that they are limited to two loaves of bread per customer “due to bakery shortages” and apologising for any inconvenience caused.
With no sign of the weather letting up, it looks like this pan-demonium isn’t going to end anytime soon.
