At long last, festival season has arrived. Gone are the woolly jackets and scarves, now is the time for wellies and glitter.
The first big festival of the year is Bulmers Forbidden Fruit 2019, which kicks off this Saturday, 1 June. It’s set to be an action-packed weekend as well, with thousands of people heading to the Royal Hospital Kilmainham to enjoy the music, food, and all-round great craic for the ninth addition of the Dublin festival.
What to expect
There are tonnes of great acts playing across the three days, with the main headliners including the likes of Skepta, Elbow, Mura Masa, and Fontaines D.C.
It isn’t all about the headliners though, as there will be everything from comedy and art to great food and even better after-parties as well. The first acts go on stage between 2-3pm on each of the days, with the latest usually wrapping up before 11pm.
If you’re there on the Sunday night, we highly recommend heading to the Bingo Loco Rave Round in the Someplace Else x District area. Bingo might not be what you’d be expecting to do at a music festival, but if the previously bonkers Bingo Loco events are anything to go by, you’re 100% guaranteed a good laugh.
There is a limited number of Forbidden Fruit tickets left. There will also be a box office at the venue as well if you want to chance getting them on the day (we strongly recommend getting them ASAP).
Getting there
Entrance on Saturday and Sunday starts at 2pm, with doors opening at 3.30pm on the Monday. Last entries will be at 9.30pm each night, but why would you want to miss out on such an action-packed day anyway?
The festival’s excellent location close to Dublin city centre certainly makes things a lot easier. It’s only a 10-minute walk away from Heuston Station, meaning the LUAS Red Line is only the same distance away.
As for Dublin Bus options, the following routes would drop you nearby:

- 123
- 13
- 79
- 79A
- 25A
- 66A
There is no parking at the venue, and traffic restrictions will be in place on Military Road and Kilmainham Lane. If you are looking for a place to leave your car, the nearest public car park is Park Rite Parking Lot at 7 Queen Street, Dublin 7.
Pedestrian access will be via East Gate, West Gate, Military Road, and James St.

Bulmers Forbidden Fruit weather
Look, we’re not going to promise you that the sun is going to be splitting the stones, but that’s not what a good festival is all about. Keep an eye on the MET Éireann website for the latest weather updates.
Saturday morning will be mostly dry to start off, with the odd outbreak of rain during the day. The good news is, highest temperatures will be between 16 and 18 degrees, with only the odd outbreak of rain for the rest of the night.
On Sunday, showers should start becoming more scattered than the night before, with clear spells developing as well. Temperatures could reach as high as 19 degrees.
Finally, Monday will be a cool and bright day, with scattered showers expected as well. There may be a slight drop in temperatures, with the forecast indicating it’ll be floating between 13 and 16 degrees. Not that you’ll need high temperatures while you’re bopping along to your favourite tunes.
