Easy exercise of the week: Sliding Pike

Strengthening your core is fundamental to a fitter, stronger more toned you. The simple fact is that if you have a strong core, everything else will follow and you will look ridiculously good on the beach this summer.

Again, as with all exercises, to maximise the benefit of the exercise, ensure that your technique is right. Doing this exercise right will exercise the core and lower abs.

  • Begin in a press-up position on an uncarpeted floor, hands under shoulders and a towel under feet.
  • Place the toes hip width apart on a folded towel.
  • With legs straight, raise hips and draw legs toward hands into a pike position.
  • Feet should slide easily.
  • In the final position, your body has the form of an inverted V, feel the stretch in the hamstring.
  • Hold for one count, then return to start.
  • Repeat 10 times.
