Here’s why you shouldn’t keep a condom in your wallet or your pocket

Rudi Kinsella

Condoms

Don’t go walking around holding one in your hand either.

Having a condom on you is just good practice.

Safe sex is important for a number of reasons that we shouldn’t have to explain to you, and having a condom on your person is a crucial part of that.

And you would think that having it in your wallet is the safest bet. Failing that, maybe your pocket.

But apparently, that’s not an ideal location for the contraception.

Speaking to Metro, clinical lead at FPA (one of the UK’s leading sexual health charities), Karin O’Sullivan said:

“Heat, moisture, friction and light can affect the quality of condoms and make them less effective.”

Well, shite. We did not know that.

You’re probably thinking, “Well where am I going to put them so? I’m not going to hold one in my hand at all times just in case”.

Well, O’Sullivan reckons that a small bag is ideal, saying:

“Condoms should be kept where they cannot be damaged by strong heat, sharp objects, light or damp. Ideally, a bedside table, but it would also be OK to carry condoms somewhere safe in a handbag like an old sweet tin or small silk bag – not lying around at the bottom of it”.

The more you know…

Better get yourself a little bag.
