PIC: Father Ted meets the General Election posters and it’s superb

Paul Moore

Up with this sort of thing.

With the General Election set to take place on February 26th, there’s going to be plenty of important discourse, debate and discussion regarding the political future of Ireland taking place over the next week.  Pay attention because it’s almost as important as the King of the Sheep competition. Almost.

While every political party and TD will have a detailed manifesto that outlines their policies and political rhetoric, sometimes a pop-culture based approach can be just as effective to swing opinion and as you all know, no other TV show is as popular with Irish voters quite like Father Ted.

The creative geniuses at Jar.ie has clearly been moved by the famous viral image of ‘Irish politicians as characters from The Simpsons’ because this effort that merges the crazy world of Craggy Island with the even crazier world of Dáil Éireann is superb.

While the talented team at Jar.ie are more familiar with writing about Ireland’s bars, pubs, distilleries and much more, we’ve a feeling that they’ve got a future in political commentary because the majority of these comparisons are absolutely bang on.

Fianna Fáil under Bertie and Cowen did cause an economic disaster, sort of like that time Dougal was left to do a funeral, so that fits. Labour ‘s political opponents might also agree that they’re going to be scary as jumper-cake when it comes to the vote and as for RENUA, well, Lucinda Creighton clearly thinks that pop-tarts have no place in our Lord’s plan for the world.
