WATCH: Passengers share footage of jet engine ‘exploding’ mid-flight

This must have been pretty scary for the people on board.

On Monday evening, United Airlines flight UA1175 departed San Francisco heading towards Honolulu. Everything was business as usual, until about 40 minutes before landing, when passengers on board claimed that one of the engines 'exploded', with debris flying off and the wing casing disappearing, exposing the jet engine itself. https://twitter.com/haleylora/status/963562001506029568 https://twitter.com/mfalaschi/status/963570375970865152 https://twitter.com/erikhaddad/status/963545018890821632 Following the incident, passengers reported that an emergency landing was requested at Honolulu airport, as well as a request for emergency services on the runway. "The pilots sounded tense", one person on board tweeted.
