Anne Hathaway has been cast as the Grand High Witch in the remake of The Witches

It will be hard to top Anjelica Huston’s terrifying performance.

Anne Hathaway could be about to traumatise an entire generation of children as the star of The Dark Knight Rises and Les Misérables has been cast as the Grand High Witch in Robert Zemeckis’ remake of the cult classic, The Witches.

In recent weeks, The Witches has been added to the Netflix library and we’re big fans of Nicolas Roeg’s adaptation of the Roald Dahl classic.

Of course, a large reason why the film has remained in our memory is due to Anjelica Huston’s haunting performance and one scene in particular. If you’ve seen the film, you’ll know exactly what we’re talking about!

Christ, that transformation sequence in the ballroom is still the stuff of nightmares.

Anyway, if you haven’t read the book or seen the film, the story follows a 7-year-old boy who stumbles upon a witch convention and must stop them, even after he has been turned into a mouse.

After his most recent film, Welcome to Marwen, absolutely flopped at the box-office, Back to the Future director Zemeckis could do with a hit and he’s set to co-write the script as well.

The Oscar-winning duo of Alfonso Cuaron (Gravity, Roma) and Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water, Pan’s Labyrinth) are also involved.
