Stephen Porzio

There are lots of movies to check out on TV this Bank Holiday Monday.

As the Bank Holiday weekend and the sunny stretch of weather Ireland has been enjoying over the past few days come to an end, people may be feeling a bit blue.

That said, there’s plenty of good movies on TV tonight that might help raise people’s spirits.

Check out the options below.

Bumblebee – Film Four – 6.45pm

An 80s set spin-off of Transformers, a robot superhero is found by a teenager (Hailee Steinfeld) in a junkyard.

John Cena co-stars in Bumblebee, which is considered the best of its franchise.

Jack Reacher – ITV4 – 9pm

In this adaptation of a Lee Child novel, Tom Cruise stars as a drifter and former army military police officer who becomes embroiled in an investigation into a series of killings.

Boasting a charismatic turn from Cruise, legendary German filmmaker Werner Herzog chewing the scenery as the villain of the piece and a twisty plot, Jack Reacher is well worth viewers’ time.

Men in Black – Sky One – 9pm

In this sci-fi comedy classic, a police officer (Will Smith) joins a secret organization that polices and monitors extraterrestrial interactions on Earth.

Tigerland – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm

One of Colin Farrell’s earliest roles, he plays an army draftee opposed to the Vietnam War being trained in the US before he is deployed.

Skyscraper – RTÉ One – 9.30pm

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson plays a security expert who must infiltrate a burning skyscraper, 225 stories above ground, when his family is trapped inside by criminals.

First Man – TG4 – 9.50pm

Reteaming filmmaker Damien Chazelle with Ryan Gosling after the success of La La Land, First Man explores the life of astronaut Neil Armstrong and the legendary space mission that led him to become the first man to walk on the Moon.

Safe – Syfy – 10pm

A young girl whose memory holds a priceless numerical code finds herself pursued by the Triads, the Russian mob, and corrupt NYC cops.

Coming to her aid is an ex-cage fighter (Jason Statham) whose life was destroyed by the gangsters on the girl’s trail.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
