Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul cements his hero status by playing Luke Skywalker in a one-off show

Yeah bitch! The Force is definitely with this one...

Yeah bitch! The Force is definitely with this one…

In many ways, the character development of Walter White and Jesse Pinkman in Breaking Bad is exactly like Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker… with meth replacing midichlorians, obviously.

Think about it, the once noble Walter became corrupted by his greed for money, power and a desire to build a meth empire as he descended into the dark side while Jesse, just like Luke Skywalker, was severely tested after suffering personal tragedy before being tempted to give into the Sith Mr White.

By that logic then Mike would have to be Yoda…

Aaron Paul was already a hero in our eyes but his decision to play Luke Skywalker in director Jason Reitman’s upcoming one-night-only live-read of Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back in L.A. on Thursday night has cemented his status further.

To make things even better, Spiderman star J.K. Simmons will be playing the galaxy’s favourite bad-ass, Darth Vader.

Apparently, the Juno and Up in the Air director cast Paul because his tough, streetwise, yet charismatic persona is a stark contrast to “the sweet, innocent farmboy on Tatooine. Jesse from Breaking Bad questions authority in a much different way than Luke Skywalker does. He growls at it, and his annoyance at his journey will be unique from the traditional boy-to-man transition.”

If that wasn’t enough reason to wish you were in attendance then C3-PO will be played by Extras star Stephen Merchant in what seems like an inspired piece of casting to us. Merchant is tall, gangly, British and has a much better sense of humour than the droid that everyone loves to hate.

24’s President Palmer, aka Dennis Haysbert, will be playing the cooler-than-cool Lando Calrissian, while comedian Kevin Pollak will do his best to channel the wise words of Jedi Master Yoda.

JOE really wishes that we were living in Los Angeles right now and had a ticket to this show.

Star Wars meets Breaking Bad, yeah bitch!
