Cillian Murphy’s cameo in The Young Offenders might actually happen

Cillian Murphy Young Offenders

The Peaky Blinders star might do it if he gets “a good part.” Amazing.

Since premiering earlier this year, The Young Offenders TV show has quickly established itself as one of the most beloved comedies in recent Irish history. Quite frankly, we’re running out of superlatives for Peter Foott’s comedy because it’s that rare beast – a show that’s adored by critics and audiences alike.

A few weeks ago, the show was nominated for the prestigious Rose D’or award and in terms of the public adulation, the fact that a second season was approved before a single episode was aired is a sign of its incredible popularity.

As previously stated, one person that’s a massive fan of Conor and Jock is fellow Corkonian Cillian Murphy. In fact, the Peaky Blinders star even visited the lads when they were filming scenes for the first season.

“It’s great because when you’re growing up and wanting to be an actor, Cillian Murphy is just from down the road. To hear that he likes the show is just great. We actually met him over the summer while we were filming and he had nothing but nice things to say. He’s an absolute legend, we love him,” said Alex Murphy (Conor).

After being asked about a potential cameo in the show during a recent interview, the Dunkirk and Batman Begins star said: “It would have to be a good part, mind,” he laughed.”I’ve met those lads and they’re brilliant lads and brilliant actors and I love the series.”

If anyone might have some sway on Murphy making an appearance alongside Conor and Jock, it’s Jennifer Barry who plays Siobhan in the series.

Ahead of her role in Lisa McGee’s play Girls and Dolls- more about that award-winner here – we got a chance to catch up with the talented actress and she said that the creator of The Young Offenders, Peter Foott, is very aware that Murphy might make a cameo in if he gets that “good part.”

“Yeah, I hope Peter is at home writing his backside off to get Cillian Murphy a good part because that would be class to get him in. I don’t know if it will actually happen and there are so many rumours about it happening but that would be incredible. He even has an haircut to rival the lads!” she said.

With regards to Season 2 of the award-winning comedy, RTÉ have confirmed that they’ll be showing the new episodes but given the fact that it hasn’t started filming yet, we think that might be a while off yet still.

Murphy has a bust slate too with Season 5 of Peaky Blinders starting production in the next few months.

This being said, could you imagine Tommy Shelby in Cork’s most famous TV show. Now wouldn’t that be something?

As for Jennifer Barry, she’s stars alongside Jamie Lee O’Donnell (Derry Girls) in Girls and Dolls by Lisa McGee which plays for a limited run from 11th-15th September at The Gaiety Theatre, Dublin.
