Ted Lasso Season 4: What Irish Fans Need To Know

At the end of season three, Ted Lasso packed up and flew home to Kansas to be with his son. It looked like the plucky AFC Richmond coach had said his goodbyes for good, with talk already turning to a possible Roy Kent spin-off built around Brett Goldstein's character. And yet, on 5 August, Ted Lasso is back for a fourth season on Apple TV.

The feel-good comedy became one of the streaming era's biggest watercooler hits and an awards magnet, so its unexpected return is one of the TV events of the year. For Irish viewers, the new run is available to stream on Apple TV.

Why Ted Lasso is back

Series creator and star Jason Sudeikis had always said he had three seasons of the story in his head, even while collecting a reported $1 million per episode by season three. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, as The Journal reported, Sudeikis said the decision not to continue was never a bluff: “That wasn’t a negotiation tactic. The story was told. Ted went home [to Kansas City] to be with his son. I wasn’t going to have Ted uproot their life to justify the money truck. It made no sense to me.”

What changed, he has since explained, is that over the last few years he realised there was more of the story he wanted to tell – enough to bring the coach and his tracksuit back to our screens.

When and where to watch Ted Lasso in Ireland
