Irish actor Jack Gleeson has joined the cast of a new BBC series based on Agatha Christie’s Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, RTÉ Entertainment reports.
The Game of Thrones and House of Guinness star is part of the six-part series, titled Hercule, which will see Edward Bluemel play the young detective.
The cast also includes Cold Feet star James Nesbitt, Riot Women actress Tamsin Greig, Juice actor Mawaan Rizwan, James D’Arcy of Oppenheimer and The Buccaneers actor Guy Remmers.
The new adaptation aims to show how Poirot rose to prominence and is due to begin filming soon, primarily in Liverpool.
It will centre on three of Christie’s early stories while introducing the detective to future friends, allies and one of his nemeses.
Written by Benji Walters, the series is produced by Mammoth Screen, part of ITV Studios, and Agatha Christie Ltd.
Christie’s Poirot novels have sold more than 750 million copies since 1920, and the character has previously been played by David Suchet, Peter Ustinov and Kenneth Branagh.
Irish viewers will be able to watch Hercule on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in 2027.
