Ed Sheeran was the name on all Irish people’s lips last week as he
performed two sold-out gigs at the 3 Arena,
recorded the music video for his single, ‘Galway Girl’ in Galway and appeared on various Irish radio stations in what was a pretty busy few days for one of the most popular acts in the world right now.
The people of Ireland have always had a particular affinity with Ed – whose grandparents hail from Gorey in Wexford – and one of the countless instances of him being a good bloke was relayed on the The Ray D’Arcy Show on Saturday night.
Three years ago, Dubliner Triona Priestly passed away at the age of just 15 after a battle with cystic fibrosis and in her dying moments, she received a phone call from her idol, Ed Sheeran, who performed her favourite song, ‘Little Bird’, while she was surrounded by her family in hospital.

In the audience on the Ray D’Arcy Show on Saturday night was Triona’s brother, Aidan, who described her final moments in heartbreaking fashion, including the smile on Triona’s face shortly before she passed away.
