The Enda Kenny doppelganger was the talk of the first episode of First Dates Ireland

Conor Heneghan

First Dates Ireland

The resemblance is pretty striking to be fair.

First Dates Ireland returned for a new season on Tuesday night and while Cupid’s arrow didn’t really hit any targets, there was plenty to keep viewers entertained.

Prior to the show, for example, we were given a sneak peek of arguably the worst first date ever between Leigh and Samuel, which certainly lived up to and probably exceeded all incredibly awkward expectations.

Then there was Ben and Amy, who actually ended up getting on pretty well despite a fairly inauspicious start…

One of the major talking points from Tuesday night’s episode, however, was the striking resemblance between one of the daters, Joey, and Leo Varadkar’s predecessor as Taoiseach.

It was a resemblance picked up on by many viewers on social media and if one didn’t know better, one would suspect Enda wanted a return to the limelight after stepping down as Fine Gael leader in the summer…

The similarity between Joey and Enda didn’t stop Jackie from inviting Joey to a party and the pair have remained firm friends since.

We’re not sure if he would have been Leigh’s cup of tea, mind, he’s more of a Leo man…
