One of the best sci-fi films ever is among the movies on TV tonight

Moon

Your Monday evening movie menu has arrived!

If you’re in a movie mood, then we’ve got some good news for you. Prime Video has just added 11 very big movies to its library (check them all out here), but if none of those suit, then you can check out the movies on TV tonight, starting with…

The Legend of Zorro – FilmFour – 6.25pm

The sequel to the brilliant The Mask of Zorro is nowhere near as good as that first movie.

Ghost – Sky Showcase – 9pm

One of the most beloved romantic movies of all time, with the ghost of a murdered man (Patrick Swayze) haunting his ex partner (Demi Moore) through a powerful medium (Whoopi Goldberg).

Gemini Man – FilmFour – 9pm

Will Smith stars as an aging assassin, who discovers that a government agency has cloned him, as a younger, fitter version of himself to take him out. A great idea, but not executed well enough.

Heist – TG4 – 9.30pm

Robert De Niro and Dave Bautista star in this thriller about a pair of robbers taking aim at a ruthless casino owner. 29% on Rotten Tomatoes tells you everything you need to know.

Moon

Sam Rockwell in Moon, our big pick for the night

County Lines – BBC Three – 10pm

BBC Three seems to have this movie on a loop this last week. We’d literally never heard of it before, but apparently the drug drama is pretty good.

US Marshalls – ITV4 – 10pm

The follow-up to The Fugitive brings over Tommy Lee Jones as the fugitive hunter, and very little else. Wesley Snipes, Robert Downey Jr., and a big plane crash feature in the dumb but fun sequel.

War of the Worlds – FilmFour – 11.35pm

Tom Cruise is back in the spotlight this week thanks to all things Mission Impossible. This sci-fi action horror pairing with Spielberg is a tremendous recent CV highlight, especially that incredibly tense first 40 minutes or so.

Moon – BBC Two – 12.15am

Our main pick for this evening is Moon, directed by Duncan (Son of David Bowie) Jones. A lonely astronaut (Sam Rockwell) working on the moon is getting near the end of his three year contract, when he suffers from a fatal accident. But that is far from the end of his journey… To give much more away would spoil the surprises Moon hides so well, but trust us, it is a fantastic movie.

For anyone looking to stream Moon, it can be rented through Google Play or Apple.

Cube – FilmFour – 1.30am

A group of strangers wake up in a strange room and must solve some complex puzzles to try to get out. Basically the worst version of an escape room imaginable. A very good sci-fi horror.
