Fast becoming one of the TV highlights of the week.
We’re only two weeks into the new series of the Tommy Tiernan show on RTÉ 2 and it’s already being hailed as one of the best things the national broadcaster has done in ages.
There was a brilliant reception for the first episode of the new season last week but Tommy banished any worries about a difficult ‘second episode syndrome’ with another entertaining offering on Thursday night .
Fellow chat show host Ray D’Arcy, animator Richie Baneham and identical triplets Alison, Laura and Nichola Crimmins, all models with the Assets Modelling Agency, were Tommy’s guests on the night and, as usual, he was unaware of who he’d be talking to until they showed up on stage.

RTÉ were at pains to remind viewers of that before last night’s show, clarifying that Tommy was aware of the musical act on the night – Gavin James – after eagle-eyed viewers spotted an Aslan drum kit in the background before last week’s show.
For those who have never seen the show before- Tommy has NO idea who the guests are until they walk out on stage. #TommyTiernanShow

However, he does know who the musical act is- he finds out a few moments before the show kicks off!

Once that was out of the way, the social media audience was virtually unanimous in their praise for the show for the second week in succession; seems like Tommy is a natural at this chat show lark.

First time a chat show on @RTEOne has made me laugh as much as watching Graham Norton. #TommyTiernanShow ❤️

Surely Tommy Tiernan has to get a Saturday night slot on RTE. Absolute gold and brilliant interviewer. Had me on the floor #tommytiernanshow

What makes Tommy such a great interviewer is that he has no filter, no fear and no shame. He just asks what he wants. #TommyTiernanShow

Conversely, his guests have no safety net. If you agree to go on, it’s all up for grabs. Incredibly refreshing.#TommyTiernanShow

He's a great way of slagging the hole off someone without losing them #TommyTiernanShow

It's good to moan about RTE chat show hosts, but it's also good to acknowledge someone really good … Fair play to #TommyTiernanShow.
