Netflix is developing its first-ever series based on the work of Philip K. Dick, according to Screen Rant.
The show, titled The Future Is Ours, will adapt one of the sci-fi author’s weirder and more obscure novels as Irish viewers will be able to stream it on Netflix in Ireland when it lands.
The Future Is Ours is based on The World Jones Made, a cult-classic sci-fi story first published in 1956.
Like most of Philip K. Dick’s work, it trades in weird but ambitious concepts, the kind of philosophically dense material that has always made his books notoriously tricky to bring to the screen.
Dick’s stories have nonetheless inspired some of the genre’s defining screen work, from Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner and Richard Linklater’s A Scanner Darkly, to Steven Spielberg’s Minority Report.
On television, Electric Dreams and The Man in the High Castle proved there is a strong appetite for his ideas in longer form , the space Netflix is now stepping into.
Netflix has yet to confirm a release date, but The Future Is Ours adds another high-profile sci-fi title to a slate that Irish subscribers will be watching closely.
