We cannot wait to see this.

There haven't been many good video game film adaptations, as this useful list from Rotten Tomatoes highlights.

Also, the honour of being the first classic, undeniably great video game movie adaptation is still up for grabs.

What could secure this title is the upcoming Resident Evil reboot from Zach Cregger, director of the brilliant horror thrillers Barbarian and Weapons, the latter of which won an Oscar this year.

His take on the story will follow Bryan (played by Weapons standout Austin Abrams), a medical courier who "unwittingly finds himself in an action-packed, non-stop race for survival as one fateful, horrifying night collapses around him in chaos".

Speaking to IGN, Cregger said of his Resident Evil adaptation: "My rule for this movie was to try and make a movie that felt like my experience of playing the games, that could live in the world of Resident Evil."

Early reactions to the film seem to suggest he accomplished this goal.

As per the website World of Reel, the buzz for the upcoming Resident Evil movie from test screenings is very strong.

Viewers have described it as "mean and lean" and "all gas, no breaks", with some even drawing comparisons to Oscar-winner Mad Max: Fury Road.

The horror thriller will be out in cinemas on 18 September 2026. Check out the trailer for Resident Evil above.
