A classy tribute to a classy guy.

Wednesday marked the end of an era for RTÉ News and for viewers of the news across the country as Bryan Dobson delivered his final bulletin before his departure to Morning Ireland on Radio One.

Co-anchor of the Six One News since 1996, ‘Dobbo’ has delivered some of the biggest stories from Ireland and beyond to the nation for over two decades and we’ve all become quite accustomed to him, his distinctive voice and his ultimate professionalism during that time.

On Wednesday evening, Dobson sat in for his last Six One broadcast and if he thought he was going to escape an emotional tribute, he was sadly mistaken.

Sharon Ní Bheoláin, his co-anchor of many years, said a few kind words of her own before introducing a montage of some of his best bits in front of the camera, titled ‘Dobbo through the ages’.

The last word, of course, went to the man himself, who kept it brief and classy, signing off by saying: “I hate to go, but I’m afraid I have to leave. So thank you, and goodnight.”

We think there’s something in our eye… those damn onions!
