Quietly stealing just about every scene he's been in ever since he appeared half-way through the end credits to Iron Man, Sam Jackson's Nick Fury has been an important cornerstone of the Marvel Cinematic Universe despite not having any discernible superpowers.
He's appeared in the majority of Marvel movies since then - the ones mostly set on Earth, anyways - and he's due to show up in Avengers: Infinity War in 2018, but one outing we won't be seeing him in is the MCU's first black superhero standalone movie.
Talking to We Got It Covered about the upcoming Black Panther movie, he had this to say: "Yeah, I’d love to do a Nick Fury movie. I’m always open and game. But they got Infinity Wars, two movies to do there, and after that there’s Brie [Larson’s] movie Captain Marvel, which maybe [Nick] will be part of. Also, I asked them, “So you’re doing Black Panther and the only black character in the Marvel Universe is not showing up?” And they’re like, “Nick Fury is not in Wakanda!” How can he not know the other black superhero on the planet? How the hell does that work? But they just said, “No you’re not in that one.”"
On the plus side, he seems to think he might be rocking up in Captain Marvel in 2019, which means he probably won't be killed off in the Infinity Wars, so that's a plus.

M. Night Shyamalan's multiple personality thriller was released to great reviews, with many claiming it to be a massive return to form for the director, his best movie since Unbreakable. Well, the reason why that movie in particular gets mentioned is because (A) it's arguably his best movie - yes, even better than The Sixth Sense, deal with it, and (B) it ends with the arrival of Bruce Willis' character from that movie, meaning it is set in the same universe as Jackson's evil Mr. Glass.
He chatted to Collider about that potential sequel to Unbreakable: "I got a call and [Shyamalan] said, ‘Call me I wanna talk to you about something.’ And I called him, because I always do when I get a message from him always hoping [it’s Unbreakable 2], and he said, ‘I just did this film called Split, I want you to see it,’ and I was like ‘OK, I’m down with that.’ I had no idea what Split was about or anything else, and he said, ‘We’ll talk after you see it.’ So I went to the arranged screening and I called him immediately and was like, ‘OK dude does this mean what I think it means?’ and he was like, ‘Well first we gotta see how the movie does’. And I think the movie’s done well enough now to merit the ‘OK, let’s put this together.’”
“I think he’s an adequate foe for what Bruce’s Unbreakable character is in terms of him being sort of unbreakable too in that kind of way, and me having found now—fuck, that would be two people that Elijah would look at and go, ‘Why are they so this and I’m so this on this end of the spectrum?’ It’s just a matter of breaking my ass out of wherever that mental institution was they had me locked up and let’s get it on, let’s see what happens!”
Split had a production budget of $9 million, and to date has made $193 worldwide. Let's see what happens indeed!
