Season 2 of Derry Girls is set to be even ‘bigger and braver’

Derry Girls Season 2

Music to the ears of Derry Girls fans.

While second album syndrome is more synonymous with music (duh!?), we all know of a few TV shows that couldn’t quite match their opening seasons.

For example, Daredevil, True Detective, Heroes, Friday Night Lights, and countless other shows failed to equal their opening season but in an interview with Radio Times, Saoirse-Monica Jackson (Erin) said that Derry Girls will have no issues hitting those hight notes again.

“In Season 2 of Derry Girls it’s definitely bigger and braver. I would say there’s no second album fare,” she said.

“[Creator] Lisa [McGee] has really outdone herself. Not to say same old same old, but the girls are definitely in the same situation, still a disaster, still a bunch of selfish teenagers, still getting themselves into trouble and thinking they’re right at all times.”

At present, a premiere date hasn’t been announced although Lisa McGee has previously hinted that March is being earmarked by Channel 4.

A few weeks ago, Jamie-Lee O’Donnell (who plays Michelle in the show) also said that the new season “is even better than the first”.

“I think Lisa [McGee, show creator] has outdone herself. It’s brilliant,” she said, while Lisa McGee said that Season 2 will be “bigger and crazier” than the first one”.

During a recent interview with The Derry Journal, Ian McElhinney (Granda Joe) said that there are no signs of the standards slipping on Season 2. In fact, they’re going the opposite way.

“Most of us probably feel that, if anything, the new series is going to be stronger than the first,” said McElhinney.

All things considered, to paraphrase the local lingo, it’s going to be cracker.
