Titled Silverback, Vaughan-Lawlor is one of the leads in the movie, opposite Harry Potter and White Lotus actor Jason Isaacs.
Described as a "tense, character-driven thriller", the film follows architect turned stay-at-home dad, Rob (Tom Vaughan-Lawlor), as he quickly becomes friends with his new neighbour, Terry (Isaacs), a notorious criminal.
"The aura Terry exudes speaks to something Rob fears he has lost, while in Rob, Terry finds a fellow father to confide in - a man whose ordinary decent life he admires," the plot synopsis adds.
"However, it isn’t long before the menace of Terry’s world comes calling on their sedate suburban existence."
The feature directorial debut from writer-director Steve Kenny (Time Traveller), Silverback is currently filming in locations across north Dublin and Meath, including Balbriggan.
In January, JOE attended the red carpet premiere for the excellent RTÉ mystery comedy drama These Sacred Vows.
While we were there, we spoke to Vaughan-Lawlor and asked him about Silverback.
He told us: "Yeah, we're going to shoot that in April in Dublin. It's a really beautiful, complicated script, challenging. I'm really excited…
"Steve Kenny wrote it. He directed a beautiful short film [Time Traveller] about the Back to the Future car, about a kid in the car from Back to the Future... So, he's really talented and really smart.
"[Silverback is] kind of a two-hander, these two men who live beside each other. I'm a huge fan of Jason Isaacs, so I'm looking forward to that."
In a new statement about Silverback, Kenny said: “With production up and running, it’s been incredibly exciting to see our story move from the page to the screen.
"At its heart, Silverback explores the power dynamics of male friendship, the responsibility of fatherhood, and our capacity for violence.
"Tom and Jason are two extraordinary actors perfectly suited to bringing these primal concerns to life. Their performances are the centrepiece of our film.”
Tom Vaughan-Lawlor has been very in demand recently, appearing on TV screens in These Sacred Vows and Game of Thrones spin-off A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
The Irish actor was also recently announced to be reprising his role from the acclaimed stage revival of Conor McPherson's The Weir in its upcoming film adaptation.
Love/Hate and These Sacred Vows star Tom Vaughan-Lawlor's much-anticipated new crime thriller has begun filming in Dublin and Meath.

McPherson will be directing the movie version of The Weir, which will also star Oscar-nominee Brendan Gleeson (The Banshees of Inisherin, The Guard).
