Marvel finally answer a massive question about Infinity War which perfectly sets up Avengers 4

Paul Moore

The mystery is finally solved.

Only after watching Iron Man and wondering how the rest of the films in the MCU will play out? Well, in that case, consider this to be your spoiler alert.

Also, skip Iron Man 2, it’s not great.

With Ant-Man and The Wasp about to be unleashed in cinemas, it’s time to step back into the MCU but as we all know after Thanos’ fatal click, half of the world has turned to dust.

We’ve already provided a detailed discussion about the post credit sequence and the future direction of the MCU but it’s time to delve back into the strangest scene from Infinity War.

We already knew about the abilities of five Infinity Stones, but the properties of the the Soul Stone were unknown..until now.

A recent video that was uploaded to Marvel Studios Movies has revealed that the Soul Stone does in fact control life and death.

Here are the official powers of the six stones:

  • The Space Stone: Travel across any dimension.
  • The Time Stone: Set the future, alter the past.
  • The Reality Stone: Bend reality to your will.
  • The Soul Stone: Control life and death.
  • The Power Stone: Destroy anything in your path.
  • The Mind Stone: Create and alter consciousness.

This description does raise some interesting possibilities for the aftermath of Avengers: Infinity War.

If the Soul Stone can control death, it could be argued that it has the potential to reverse Thanos’ finger snap and restore the lives of the half of the universe that Thanos killed?

In a previous interview with Comicbook.com, Joe Russo, one of the directors of Avengers: Infinity War, was speaking about the properties of the Soul Stone.

Cast your mind back to that very weird and peaceful scene where Thanos and Gamora are walking through shallow water that’s under an arch.

After this scene unfolded, film fans have speculated that Gamora isn’t actually dead, but trapped inside of the Soul Stone.

When asked about this theory during a recent Q&A, Joe Russo practically confirmed it. “Yeah it’s implied [that] it’s the Soul Stone. It’s all orange around, then he’s inside the Soul Stone with the amount of power that it took to snap his fingers- he has this out of body experience with Thanos. When he goes inside the Soul stone he has this kind of conversation with the younger version of his Gamora,” he said.

The same person then asked the director for a definitive answer. Is Gamora in the Soul Stone?

“She in fact is, yes. It was an attempt on our part – because we don’t like two-dimensional roles or three-dimensional villains every villain is a hero in their own story and as insane and psychotic and brutal and violent as Thanos is he’s a more complex villain if you go on a journey with him emotionally. He does care for things and it is complicated for him to execute his plan and it cost him something. He said at the end that it cost him everything and that it was the only thing he loved which was Gamora which is why we put him back with her at the end. I just want to reiterate with the audience that he does feel true emotion even though he is a monster.”

The plot for Avengers 4 thickens.
